LabVIEW 8.0 Help

LabVIEW 8.0 Help

As a technical writer at National Instruments, I was part of a team of tech writers that developed and edited the LabVIEW 8.0 help. My responsibilities included the following tasks:
  • Researched and wrote conceptual and procedural topics for Application Builder, a plug-in application that enabled LabVIEW users to create executables, DLLs, Windows installers, and zip files.
  • Researched and wrote conceptual and procedural topics for a new source control feature that enabled third-party source control applications to work with LabVIEW files. I also edited and single-sourced error codes for the new feature.
  • Wrote dialog box context-sensitive help for the above features, edited and updated context-sensitive help for all core LabVIEW dialog boxes, and ensured context help imported correctly into the software.
  • Updated the LabVIEW Development Guidelines, which were converted from a printed manual to online help for the 8.0 release.
I used an HTML editor (Macromedia HomeSite) and an XML editor (Oxygen) to create and edit LabVIEW 8.0 help topics. I tested procedures periodically with the latest development versions of the software and assisted in editing user interfaces.
